B.O.S.S. seeks strategic thinkers with a demonstrated commitment to the multidisciplinary management of solar solars and resources to serve on the Association's Board of Directors. Numerous studies, our own experiences, and the overall needs of solar energy professionals illustrate the benefits of a diverse leadership team. Candidates representing the rich complexity of our membership and the populations our profession serves are highly encouraged.
The B.O.S.S. Board of Directors shall take measures to address the disparities of access and adequate financing that are barriers to black and brown solar services business owners. B.O.S.S. will work to disseminate information and create organized programmatic training and workshops to ensure our network is positioned to advance opportunities here and abroad. Our work includes raising the voices of brown and black solar services professionals in policy. Energy equity is a key policy enabler to manifesting the mission of B.O.S.S. and plays a critical role in our endeavor to highlight unfair practices and provide recommendations for common actions to address them.
The B.O.S.S. Board of Directors must invest in the future of the Association, create and approve policies, build a reward and recognition program, make appropriations for specific purposes, designate or authorize the appointive officers of the Association, manage the affairs of the Association in accordance with the Bylaws and generally direct the business of the Association.
Only B.O.S.S. members in good standing with a demonstrated commitment to B.O.S.S. may be nominated and elected for board service. Candidates for elected positions must read and agree with the below Statement of Board Member Responsibilities before their nomination can be considered. Nominees will be contacted by the B.O.S.S. Governance Committee.

Statement of Board Member Responsibilities
The B.O.S.S. Board of Directors serves as policymakers for the association. Obligations of board service are considerable and extend well beyond the basic expectations of attending meetings. The following is a statement of the individual board member responsibilities:
Each member of the B.OS.S. Board of Directors is charged to serve in the best interest of the entire B.O.S.S. membership, to serve as a leader in motivating support for the organization, and to be objective in reviewing policies and procedures focusing on the vision and mission of the organization.
A B.O.S.S. Board Member must know the organization's mission, purpose, and goals and provide leadership and stewardship to keep the organization in fiduciary and legal compliance with today's standards.
The Director needs to understand current issues, problems, complexities, and the needs of the membership. The Board of Directors is dedicated to ensuring the stability and advancement of the profession.
You must be a B.O.S.S. Member to serve as a B.O.S.S. Board Director.

Requirements/Expectations
Required Attendance:

Understand B.O.S.S.'s vision, mission, programs, and operations.

Attend (and fund your own travel) two in-person board meetings per year – one in the spring and one in the fall at the Annual Meeting.

Attend all regular virtual Board meetings – generally 6 per year.

Provide professional counsel and guidance.
Financial Oversight:
-
Understand the role of the Executive Director in the management of the Association.

Make an annual cash contribution to B.O.S.S.(contributing according to individual ability).

Understand the financial aspects of the association and exercise prudence.
-
Support and defend all policies and programs adopted by the B.O.S.S. Board of Directors.

Assist in fundraising activities and/or seeking sponsorships/donations.

Assist B.O.S.S. in planning its budget and programmatic goals.
Outreach and Membership:

Serve as an active advocate for B.O.S.S. including outreach and partnership building.

Provide, as needed, volunteer support, which may include planning or supporting conferences, workshops, technical trips, or other events/activities.

Assist with recruiting, orienting, and developing the B.O.S.S. Board of Directors.

Recruit B.O.S.S. members and new board members.
-
Identify and encourage emerging leaders.

Participate in similar meetings and events in other organizations to advise the mission of B.O.S.S.
B.O.S.S Committees and Participation:

Join a B.O.S.S. Committee(s) for the duration of your board term.

Assume committee liaison responsibilities, attend meetings, and demonstrate Board of Director involvement.

Attend and participate in B.O.S.S. programs.

Use individual resources and expertise to aid the goals of B.O.S.S.
