Letter from the Board

As business owners we know that wealth is not the same as happiness, freedom or security. We are also very clear that wealth in the context of a capitalist society - especially in the United States - is a means to achieving those ends. More importantly we know that systemic racism and many other forms of oppression have both exacerbated wealth inequalities today and eroded many gains since post-reconstruction. African American households have less wealth now than before the civil rights era. Our work as Black Owners of Solar Services and at B.O.S.S. is squarely situated along a continuum drawn from the legacy of struggles for equality, justice, and for us most directly, self-determination. Together we are helping to bend the arc of history broadly toward justice--and toward energy and climate justice in particular.

Wealth in this country and across the diaspora is a proxy for some measure of protection from manmade and environmental hazards, reduced vulnerability, safety, liberty, and opportunity now and for generations to come.

Our focus on wealth is not based on strategies tied to unrestrained capitalism or resource extraction. We believe other ways are possible, and we know we must be engaged.  Our role at B.O.S.S. is to remove the barriers to entry and growth delivering for our communities specifically and society writ large.

We are entrepreneurs, financiers, attorneys, engineers, contractors, developers, landowners,  EPCs and other peer partners. We possess deep knowledge, experience and strategic access to the multi-trillion dollar, emerging solar marketplace that is fast reshaping sustainability and livelihoods across the globe.

Our goal is to improve the ecosystem for all entrepreneurs to compete and to expand market opportunities for business whether community owned, cooperatively owned, for profit, non profit, public or privately held.
